International Cargo Transportation Insurance

International cargo transportation insurance is insurance that takes various goods in the process of foreign trade cargo transportation as the subject of insurance. Foreign trade cargo can be transported by sea, land, air, and postal delivery, among other methods. International cargo transportation insurance is an important part of international trade; it not only provides protection for goods in transit but also generates foreign exchange income from invisible trade for the country. International cargo transportation insurance mainly includes international marine cargo transportation insurance, international railway cargo transportation insurance, international road cargo transportation insurance, international air cargo transportation insurance, and parcel post insurance. Among them, marine cargo transportation insurance has the longest history, the largest business volume, and the most comprehensive legal regulations.

This insurance does not cover losses caused by the following situations:

  • Normal leakage;
  • Shrinkage in weight or volume, or wear and tear of parcels;
  • Loss, damage, or expense caused by improper or insufficient packaging of parcels;
  • Loss, damage, or expense caused by the inherent nature of the parcel itself;
  • Loss, damage, or expense caused by deliberate misconduct of the customer or their agents;
  • Loss, damage, or expense caused by delay;
  • Loss, damage, or expense caused by the use of any atomic, nuclear weapons, or radioactive substances

Compensation Principles

  • The compensation amount is limited to the lowest of the sender's declared parcel value, replacement cost, invoice value, or actual cash value. Claims require evidence to prove the declared value.
  • If your parcel is completely lost, the full shipping fee will be refunded; if your parcel is partially lost, the corresponding portion of the shipping fee will be refunded.
  • If multiple insured parcels are lost or damaged due to the same incident, the total compensation for all parcels is limited to a maximum of 5 million euros.

Inapplicable Countries

Parcel value insurance does not apply to import, export, domestic transportation, or warehousing services in the following countries:

  • Cuba
  • Iran
  • Myanmar
  • North Korea
  • Sudan
  • Syria

Restricted Countries

In Iraq or Afghanistan, parcel value insurance may cover the international transport portion after international express cargo is loaded onto the export flight or before it is unloaded from the import flight, but it does not automatically cover domestic inland transport within Iraq and/or Afghanistan. Whether domestic inland transport in Afghanistan and Iraq is covered depends on individual cases; if inland transport coverage is desired, please contact the customer service department in your region to discuss with our risk management team and reach a written agreement before delivery.
