It is reported that the overall situation of Sichuan's foreign trade in the first half of this year was relatively good, with imports and exports still maintaining double-digit growth, the structure of foreign trade continued to be optimized, and the value of both imports and exports hit a record high. From the perspective of trading partners, the United States, the European Union, ASEAN, China Taiwan, and South Korea are Sichuan’s top five trading partners, with import and export values of 97.12 billion yuan, 79.83 billion yuan, 78.92 billion yuan, 24.57 billion yuan, and 23.45 billion yuan. From the perspective of product structure, Sichuan exported 205.81 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 19.9%, accounting for 86.5% of Sichuan’s total foreign trade exports during the same period.


Regarding the reasons for the growth of Sichuan’s foreign trade, Pan Xudong, Director of the Statistics and Analysis Department of Chengdu Customs, said that the continuous recovery of the global economy has driven an increase in external demand. In the first half of this year, Sichuan’s exports to the United States, the European Union, and South Korea increased by 54.3%, 26.3% and 61.7 respectively. %, the overseas demand for products such as the "home economy" is still strong, and the export of furniture and home appliances in the first half of the year increased by 148.3% and 21.1% respectively. Domestic demand continues to pick up, superimposed on the rise in prices of bulk commodities and raw materials, and promote the growth of import value.


It is worth noting that among the trading entities in Sichuan, private enterprises have grown rapidly. In the first half of this year, the import and export of private enterprises in Sichuan was 102.94 billion yuan, an increase of 42.6%, faster than the overall import and export growth rate of 16.1%, and accounted for 24.6% of Sichuan's total import and export value of goods trade in the same period.


"Sichuan private enterprises take advantage of their independent and flexible operation, keenly capture market opportunities, and demonstrate greater vigor and resilience in foreign trade development." The province’s overall growth rate was 26.5, 36.4, and 4.2 percentage points, among which exports of LCD monitors, integrated circuits, furniture, motorcycles, and portable computers increased by 353%, 333.4%, 156.4%, 131.9% and 71.5% respectively. At the same time, Sichuan's private enterprises continued to strengthen their market development, with imports and exports to traditional markets such as the European Union, the United States, Japan, and Russia increasing by 33.4%, 109.8%, 41.1% and 29.9% respectively; imports and exports to countries along the “Belt and Road” increased by 35.9% , Among which imports and exports to ASEAN increased by 30.4%.


In addition, since 15 countries including China formally signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) at the Fourth Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders’ Meeting in November last year, Sichuan and other parties to the RCEP Trade raises concerns. According to customs data, in the first half of this year, Sichuan’s imports and exports to other RCEP parties amounted to 131.38 billion yuan, an increase of 7.4%, accounting for 31.4% of Sichuan’s total import and export value during the same period.

In the first half of this year, Sichuan’s import and export value to ASEAN accounted for 60.1% of Sichuan’s total import and export value with other RCEP contracting parties.
